Mark is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Registrar on the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) Specialist Training Program. After completing basic surgical training, Mark spent four years as an Orthopaedic Registrar, before being drawn to Sports Medicine. Mark continues to assist at Orthopaedic operations. In 2020, Mark worked at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), gaining experience managing high performance athletes. His focus since 2021 has been private practice and helping patients of all ages who want to stay active or relieve their pain.
Mark has provided medical care for a range of elite sports, including Rowing, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Australian Rules Football, Soccer and Netball. Mark was the Rowing Australia Team Doctor for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and is the current Chief Medical Officer for the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS) Swim Team based on the Sunshine Coast.
Mark's clinical interests include the management of hip, knee and shoulder pain secondary to arthritis and sporting trauma, exercise-induced leg and groin pain, head/neck pain and spinal conditions. Mark is experienced in ultrasound-guided injection techniques and regenerative sports medicine, including platelet-rich plasma for arthritis and tendinopathies, as well as guided nerve and joint injections. Mark assists in theatre for pain management procedures and consults from Metro Pain Queensland. Mark intends to do additional training in Pain Medicine and enjoys working in this evolving, multidisciplinary specialty.
